Acceptance of Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you ("User," "you") and ZapReading ("ZapReading," "we," "our," "us"), governing your access to and use of the website zapreading.com and the ZapReading web application (the "Service").

By creating an account, clicking "Sign Up," or otherwise accessing the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

If you are using the Service on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

Account Terms

• You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must review these Terms.
• You must provide a valid email address and keep your account information accurate and current.
• You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at support@zapreading.com if you suspect unauthorised access.
• One person or legal entity may not maintain more than one free account. Multiple accounts created to circumvent a subscription are prohibited.
• You may not use the Service if you are prohibited from receiving it under the laws of your jurisdiction.

Subscription & Billing

Free Plan

ZapReading offers a free tier with access to core features, subject to usage limits described on our Pricing page.

Pro Plan

The Pro Plan is offered on a monthly or annual subscription basis. By subscribing, you authorise ZapReading to charge your payment method on a recurring basis through our payment processor, Stripe.

• Billing cycle: Monthly subscriptions renew on the same day each month. Annual subscriptions renew on the same day each year.
• Automatic renewal: Your subscription renews automatically unless you cancel before the renewal date.
• Price changes:We will give you at least 30 days' notice of any price increase. Continued use after the notice period constitutes acceptance.
• Taxes: Prices shown may exclude applicable taxes. You are responsible for any sales tax, VAT, or similar taxes applicable in your jurisdiction.
• Failed payments: If a payment fails, we will attempt to charge again. If payment cannot be collected after reasonable attempts, we may downgrade or suspend your account.
• Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription at any time from Settings → Billing. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain Pro access until then.

All payment processing is handled by Stripe, Inc. ZapReading does not store your card number, CVC, or full card details. Stripe's use of your payment information is governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy.

Refund Policy

• After 7 days, subscription fees are non-refundable. Cancellation stops future charges but does not generate a refund for the current period.
• Annual plan renewals cancelled within 48 hours of the renewal charge are eligible for a prorated refund for the unused portion, at our discretion.
• Refunds are not issued for downgraded accounts or partial months.
• If your account is terminated for violating these Terms, no refund will be issued.

To request a refund, email support@zapreading.com with your account email and the subject line "Refund Request." We process approved refunds within 5–10 business days.

Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You must not:

• Violate any applicable law or regulation (local, national, or international).
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service, its infrastructure, or other users' accounts.
• Use automated tools (bots, scrapers, crawlers) to access or collect data from the Service without our express written permission.
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to extract the source code of the Service.
• Share your account credentials with others or allow multiple individuals to use a single account simultaneously.
• Use the Service in a manner that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair our servers or networks.
• Transmit any malware, spyware, or other malicious code through the Service.
• Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity.
• Use the Service to reproduce, distribute, or publicly display the practice passages or questions in violation of applicable copyright law.

We reserve the right to investigate and take appropriate action for any violation, including suspending or terminating accounts and reporting to law enforcement.

Intellectual Property

The Service and all content, features, and functionality — including but not limited to software, text, images, graphics, logos, reading passages, quiz questions, and the RSVP reader — are owned by ZapReading or its licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

Subject to your compliance with these Terms and payment of applicable fees, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the Service for your personal, non-commercial study purposes.

You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, create derivative works of, publicly display, or exploit any part of the Service without our express prior written consent. The "ZapReading" name and logo are trademarks of ZapReading. You may not use our trademarks without written permission.

User Content

The Service does not currently allow users to submit or publish public content. Any data you enter (quiz answers, notes, reading sessions) is stored solely for the purpose of operating your personal account. You retain ownership of your personal data. We do not claim any intellectual property rights over the data you enter.

Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that: (a) the Service will meet your specific requirements; (b) the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free; (c) the results obtained from the Service will be accurate or reliable; or (d) any errors in the Service will be corrected.

ZapReading's SAT practice content is designed to help students build reading speed and comprehension skills. We make no guarantee of any particular score improvement or educational outcome. The Service is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the College Board or the SAT.

Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL ZAPREADING, ITS OWNER, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, OR LICENSORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, RESULTING FROM:

• Your access to or use of (or inability to access or use) the Service;
• Any conduct or content of a third party on or through the Service;
• Unauthorised access, use, or alteration of your transmissions or content;
• Any interruption or cessation of transmission to or from the Service.

IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO ZAPREADING IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) US $50.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability for consequential damages, so the above limitations may not apply to you in full. In such cases, liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless ZapReading and its owner, officers, agents, and licensors from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with: (a) your access to or use of the Service; (b) your violation of these Terms; or (c) your violation of any third-party right, including any intellectual property or privacy right.

Termination

You may close your account at any time from Settings → Account. Closing your account cancels any active subscription (effective at period end) and schedules your data for deletion as described in our Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or terminate your account immediately, without prior notice or liability, if you breach these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Sections covering intellectual property, disclaimer of warranties, limitation of liability, and governing law survive termination.

Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the [YOUR STATE/JURISDICTION], without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service that cannot be resolved informally shall be submitted to binding arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association, conducted in English. You waive any right to participate in a class-action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration.

Nothing in this section prevents either party from seeking injunctive or other equitable relief in a court of competent jurisdiction to prevent irreparable harm.

Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email (to the address on your account) and update the effective date at the top of this page at least 14 days before the change takes effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, close your account before the effective date.
